OCR Text	Show PROMINENT CITIZEN OF NORTHWEST DIES T A COM A. Wash., Sept. 1. James Stan wood Pierce, aged 78 years. Is dead til his home here of apoplexy. Ho was a cousin of President Franklin Pierce and his grandfather, Nathaniel Pierce, gave to the Federal government tho slt for tho navy yard at Portsmouth, N. H. During Dur-ing President Grant's second term. Mr. Pierce was proprietor of the Imperial hotel, ho-tel, Washington, D. C. and later of the Grand Central hotel at Panama during tho Dc Lcsseps regime on the isthmus.
