Show WEST VIRGINIA TANGLE WORRYING REPUBLICANS NEW YORK, Sept. I. The subcommittee, subcommit-tee, composed of National Committeemen Ward. Dupont and Brooker. appointed to consider the "West Virginia Republican gubernatorial tangle, held further consideration consid-eration of the matter tonight. After the commit too had adjourned Mr. Ward announced an-nounced that, no decision would be announced an-nounced until Wednesday. An Informal meeting of almost all of tho members of tho executive committee of tho Republican national eommitteo was held at headquarters today, and the general gen-eral situation was discussed. Senator Penrose said tho meeting was only preliminary pre-liminary to a formal conferenco next week, when Chairman Hitchcock returns from the west. National Committeeman Duncan, from North Carolina, is here for a conference j with Chairman Hitchcock. Ho declared that North Carolina was rapidly becoming a doubtful stale. "Our state convention," said Mr. "Duncan, "Dun-can, "was one of the greatest Republican gatherings ever held in the state. Wo nominated a strong ticket, and we expect ex-pect to elect threo or four members to congress." |
