Show Y PL M I 1 A officers mcevins Mc elins the officers and missionaries of the Y M M I 1 associations of utah stake met immediately after the afternoon services of the first day of stake conference march 3 1889 the stake priesthood room was filled to its utmost capacity present on the stand president wilford woodruff apostle george Q cannon assistant general superintendent in milton EL hardy counsel jo rHEL cluff superintendent G H brimhall counselors J B and J V cluff and corresponding secretary john D dixon with a fall representation of officers and missionaries bupt supt brimhall called the attention of the presidents of the various associations ciati ons to the consideration of the questions asked them in a letter sent to each association president woodruff said his feelings were that in regard to these associations they were of great importance this kingdom is bound to grow therefore it is necessary for the young people to resist temptation and prepare themselves as fit subjects to carry on this great work urged the necessity of keeping the word of wisdom and leaving off improper habits belated how anxious he was when only a small boy to identify himself with some people who had the gospel as laid down in the bible exhorted those present to seek the spirit of god in all their labors apostle george Q cannon said that the young people were the growing element that would exercise influence in the land and they should ask themselves the question does our religion pertain to all things in our lives it should rest upon us every day in the week not make it a sunday religion and then throw it off said that he received a testimony when a boy that anis was the church and kingdom of god and had made up his mind to sacrifice all else for its sake it is not necessary to have external gifts to obtain a knowledge of this gospel said his life had been one of happiness owing to his course of life the fear of god is the beginning of wisdom the questions were asked and answered with suggestions by the various presidents how many young mon are enrolled do yon hold council meetings do you held weekly meetings do you meet jointly have you provided your community with lectures this winter are you following the plan of work in the contributor and if so how far have yon progressed with each subject Is your association better attended than it was last year how many sets of Y M M I 1 A books are being read in your ward do missionaries visit you do your missionaries fill their appointments point ments what would you suggest bem done to make the work better and more interesting alder milton H hardy bupt supt G H brimhall and counselor J B keeler exhorted tho officers to enlist as many members as possible keep up the public lectures and suggested that the associations change pro grammes with one another and urged missionaries not to let circumstances interfere with appointments JOHN D didoy cor sec |
