Tho Board of Park Commissioners advised ad-vised the City Council Monday night that it had docldcd to dlspcnso with the services serv-ices of Nicholas Byhower, superintendent of parks, on August 15, "In -the Interest of economy." When the notification was read, Mr. Fornstrom asked that tho mat-tor mat-tor bo rcforred to tho Municipal Laws committee" and City Attomoy, stating that, as he understood tho matter, tho office of park superintendent was created by ordinance, and thero might bo a question ques-tion as to the board's authority in the premises. Tho mattor was then referred. ' The removal of Mr. Byhower occurred at a meeting of tho park board In tho private office of City Recorder Moreton Monday afternoon. Chairman Wey. Mr. McGInly nnd Mr. Griffin wero tho only members of the board present. Tho motion mo-tion to dispense with tho services of Mr. Byhower was mado by Mr. McGInly, seconded sec-onded by Mr. Griffin, and carried by a unanimous vote. Speaking of tho matter lator. Chairman Woy said: "The fact Is that the board lacks tho authority, to compel people to park their promises and wo haven't much to do at present. Then, all that thero is for Mr. Byhower to do Is what wc tell hlrn, and there Is not enough work In sight for the superintendent to warrant us In expending $125 a month that wo can save. This Is why we have dispensed with Mr. Byhower's services." |
