immediate cause in which candidates and nominees have been numerous on tuesday evening last the most numerously attended and enthusiastic caucus ever held in lehi convened good order was maintained with lots of parliamentary rules and pathetic speeches our civil government class having largely developed both we had an average of about five nominees for every office with close voting generally ending with each nomination being made aminous un so we expect but one ticket in the field and a full vote AT tho last regular meeting of our city fathers our late assessor and collector thomas fowler been a few exceptions even deserving ones being somewhat disappointed cause depletion of pockets WE have had some sickness the past few weeks and a few have been called to part with loved ones but at furnishes excellent opportunities for skating SPRING LAKE february 6 1889 salina two miles south of tho sanpete and sevier county line or midway between gimmison Gim nison and salina two flourishing little burgs of about a thousand inhabitants each there are a number of hills which have a reddish appearance from a distance these hills aro compassed almost entirely of salt pieces of pure salt weighing aa much as fifty pounds and nearly as transparent as glass have of late been blasted from this place over a score years ago these salt hills were discovered by a mr hamilton and a party of emigrants and they afterwards ter wards purchased from the indians so the white people could obtain this necessary food without molestation the first blasting of the salt was done by john knighton who when he first proposed to attempt a blast the idea was laughed at but now thousands upon thousands of tons are being loosened by this means and hauled away some to the salt marts at salina to bo purified and used for table and other purposes there are millions and millions of tons of crude salt hero and it could be worked into a bonanza if the richt parties could be induced to take hold of
