The stranger worked his scheme by the bold use of checks, which were presented In payment for small purchases with apparently ap-parently the utmost self-possession. Tils easy manner disarmed all fears of the validity of the paper, and usually the merchant accepted the bogus check and gave him rcnl money in return. The Crescent Jewelry company was one of the places which was victimized. The police of Ogden and Salt Lake have been furnished a good description of the fellow. fel-low. '
