Show Scofield Reservoir Looks to O Good Year Scofield Res Reservoir e r v 0 i r gives promise of good creel returns this year in spite of the present low water table and other adverse adverse adverse ad ad- verse conditions which have existed since this lake was chemically treated during Sept of 1958 and restocked with game fishes one year ear ago this spring and summer Re Recent Reent ent s surveys rv s conducted conducted- ond by the Utah Utan Department pi QI Fish and Game as the ice cover left the lake showed very ver little fish loss in evidence from the thelong thelong thelong long winter period just past even though the water table has been extremely low The department said tests showed a substantial population population population tion of rainbow trout that arenow are arenow arenow now averaging about ten inches in length salmon in inthe inthe inthe the lake are averaging about six inches in length Continued good growth is expected for these fish in the warm weeks week ahead since this water is noted for tor its high production of fish foods The Scofield Reservoir chemical chemical chemical chem chem- ical treatment project in 1958 was the largest conducted b by bythe bythe the department to date in a continuing program to reduce competing trash fish populations populations populations in in many of Utah's primary primary mary game fish waters No yellow perch or chub have shown up in tests and checks of the lake to date Some small carp are present but are arc not considered a serious hazard to the production of game fish from the lake since Scofield is believed to be a marginal water for this trash fish species Scofield will open to angling I with the regular season Jupe 4 I It was closed during the 1959 season after being restocked with more than three million small fingerling rainbow trout and salmon All tributaries to the lake were included in the 1958 treatment treatment treatment treat treat- ment program Survival and growth of the restocked fishes in these waters will not be known until weather and road conditions permit examination by survey crews These tributaries inc 1 I ude Fish Creek Gooseberry CC Pond Bench Pond and several small streams The tributaries were planted with native cutthroat cutthroat cut cut- throat trout fingerling |
