Show No. S. L Finds Water Violator By IIEEN POIILMAN j An anauthorized connection connec-tion to North Salt Lake water wa-ter lines, recently caused a flood at the South Bountiful school and in the 8th West area nearby. The connection made by construction contractors con-tractors appears to be the result re-sult of a misunderstanding.. The flood which caused a sudden abnormal drop in the North Salt Lake reservoir, occured when the "cap" used to close the end of the Woods Cross line near where the unauthorized un-authorized connection was made, blew off under the high water pressure. North Salt Lake normally maintains main-tains rather high pressure in its lines and for this reason requires its pipe closures to be sealed with cement plugs. In this case, the contractor bad used a metal one. At the time the "cap" blew North Salt Lake was being used by the contractor to flush new construction lines in Woods Crops, the ones connected con-nected in front of the South Bountiful school without proper authority from North Salt Lake or the school district. dis-trict. The lines at this point are jointly owned by North Salt Lake and the Davis Coun ty School District. When the reservoir pressure pres-sure went down at the North Salt Lake reservoir, Tom Hutches, operator on duty at the time, checked the known large users of water in the town but was unable to locate the source of the outpouring. Later, pressure at the reservoir reser-voir returned to normi!, indicating in-dicating the cap was replaced. replac-ed. However, within a few days, another cap in the same construction line blew. Investigation, triggered by these unexplained drops in water pressure, revealed the improperly authorized interconnection inter-connection of the two lines. At the Town Board meeting, Monday, June 2, the matter was discussed and the town's attorney, Robert Brandt, said an explaination would be requested re-quested from the engineer and contractors on the project. proj-ect. It appeared the contractor contrac-tor or those responsible for drawing up the plans for the new construction had erred in making such a connection before suitable arrangements and agreements between the towns involved and the Davis County School District, had been made. The only notice given was a request by a workman at the project for permission to temporarily turn off a vlave supplying water to the South Bountiful school. It was never indicated this was for the purpose of inter-connecting the two systems. The matter has now been referred to the Town's attorney. attor-ney. On his advice. North Salt Lake will decide whether wheth-er to sever the two lines completely com-pletely or whether to work-out suitable agreements to allow the inter-connection. |
