RICEEFEELD, Aug. 3 Thursday, September Sep-tember 20, Is the date sot for another racing event under tho auspices of tho Itlchllold Fair and Driving association. Ftvo hundred dollars in purses will bo hung up, which Is expected to draw some of tho best racing animals in the State. One purae of ?200 will be posted for a trot and pace race. A special effort is to bo made to get some racers hero to go against the local trotter, Ginger, which has boon victor in all IiIb contests so far. While this will probably be tho main fcaturo of the day, thero will be liberal purses provided for running races, and It. is expected that thero will bo a num-bor num-bor of animals of this clasB from tho southern part of tho Stato hero. There will also be a relay race and a slow race. A tempting purso will bo hung up to got another go between James Hansen of Redmond and Will Duflln of Richfield, the crack foot racers of the county. Hansen Han-sen beat Duflln at Sallna a month ago, but tho latter has plenty of backing for another trial. Ntrw School Building. The brick work on Rlchfleld's now two-story two-story public school building will be completed com-pleted this week and the structure ready for tho carpenters. The cornice Is bolug put on now, and the work of placing tho root and finishing the building will bo rushed to completion, to try to havo It In readiness for occupancy by October 1. It will be Impossible to accommodato all tho school children of this district until the building Is ready, and it may bo that the public schools of this city will not be opened until the now schoolhouso Is ready. County Eoad Wanted. A meeting of tho business men of this city was held this week to consldor tho proposition of building a new county road from here to Grass valley to avoid the sleep hill climb over the mountain from Glenwood. At a recent meotlng of tho County Commissioners a petition was presonted, nskud the county to help in building a new road. The commissioners promised to appropriate ?500 toward tho proposition. A commltteo o a representative repre-sentative from each of tho business houses was appointed this week to look over the avallablo and practicable routes and agree upon the amounts which they would contribute toward putting a new road through. Sallna citizens aro building build-ing n new road through Loss Creek canyon can-yon td try and capture tho trade from Grass valley and Wayuo county, and It Is to head off this move that tho Richfield Rich-field citizens aro bestirring themselves. A great deal of damage has been dono to tlie hay crop of Wayne county this summer. It has been raining In that county nearly every day for tho past month, and It has been Impossible to haul tho lucern which has been cut, somo of It lying in the fields for three and four weeks. It has become mouldy and ruined. |
