Show A JUST SENTIMENT. The Ephralm Enterprise wisely says that It would have been a blessing bless-ing to Utah If Senator Smoot had contented con-tented himself with his Apostleshlp, and not gone Into politics. It rabhors tho "undesirable advertising" which the hearing of bis case before the world Is giving to Utah. It Is qulto natural that tho editor of the Enterprise should feel that way about It; most of the editors of the State as well as most of the peoplo of Intelligence In the Mormon church, feel tho same way. But the surprising thing is that the Enterprise editor should dare openly and publicly to say what he thinks. If this spirit of outspokenness out-spokenness should come to be general ln Utah, we could fairly believe that tho priesthood yoke was broken. Bui as It Is, that Is a lonely voice among tho brethren. Some of the so-called so-called "Democrats" In the church, to be sure, deplore Smoot's election to the U. S. Senate, but only on partisan grounds; their choice was a "Dcmo-w or.it." But this Sanpete editor deplores the election of Smoot because it has brought trouble to Utah and undesirable undesir-able notoriety., When tho people generally gen-erally In tho Mormon church como to the same Conclusion, Unit the chiefs of tho church must keep out of politics and cense dominating its civil affairs, and when the people speak out their convictions, the day of Utah's redemption redemp-tion will be at hand. |
