Show $50,000 FOR STATUE Congress Will Erect Monument of German General. JiJ"V YORK, May 9. News was receiver re-ceiver yesterday from "Windsor. Vt., that AugusU s St. Gaudens, the sculptor, had awarded to Albert Jaegers of this city the $50,000 iimmlsslon to execute a bronze statue of Buon Von Steuben, Major-General and Inspector-General In the Continental Conti-nental army. Congress appoprlated JSO.CtfO for the statue, which K to be erected at the northwest corner of Lafayette park, Washington, Seven Germnn AmIcan sculptors were Invited to enter a competition last summer sum-mer by a committee, comprising Secretary of War Taft, Senator 'W 'tmore and Congressman Con-gressman McCleary. The committee recently re-cently asked St Onudcns to pass upon the models submitted by t c competing artists. |
