Show MEXICAN PEARLS Fishers Doing Excellent Business Along Lower California, Consul Kaiser forwards from Maaat-lan Maaat-lan an article from a Mexican newspaper newspa-per which eays Jewelers are learning learn-ing the value of Mexican pearls, and this season is proving remunerative. The article continues: Adrian Coruejo, a prominent pearl fisher of Lower California, says that the pearl fishers along all the coast of the gulf aro doing an excellent business this year. In this part of Mexico there Is more variety in the color of the pearls found, than In any other part of the world, and comprise black, gray, red, bluish-green and yellowish. yel-lowish. Mexican pearls are fast gaining gain-ing a good reputation In the world markets. In Paris, which Is the center cen-ter of the pearl trade, thoro are no pearls more In favor than those from Mexico. There Is now about as much prospecting pros-pecting for pearls In the Gulf of California Cali-fornia as there Is hunting for mines throughout the Interior of Mexico, and the entire gulf coast Is closely inspected by pearl fishers or prospectors. Tho best pearls are to be found In the bottom of the pearl beds. Thereforo old beds that were some tlmo ago supposed to have been worked out have lately been raked over, sometimes some-times with gratifying results. Ono of the finest gray pearls ever found was encountered In one of these deserted beds. Among tho most valuable pearls to be found In the Gulf of California are those of a reddish color. Those aro discovered only occasionally. They have an exquisite luster, and many of them are large and of the most perfect shape. |
