Show XO FEAR OF OLD AGE Veteran Editor. Dean of Clover Club, Makes Striking Speech. PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 13. Near the end of the Clover club's twenty-fifth annivcrsaiy dinner last night, Col. A. K. McCIure, the aged editor, dean of the club and its ex-president, made a speech in which he decried fear of old age. Ho said: "Old age has nothing in it to fear. When death calls to me 1 shall not bo afraid. " "After dining with Mr. Carnegie once, he said to me that he would givo $200,000,000 to have a lease on :i"c. 'Two hundred millions,' he said to me, 'that's what T'd give for a lease on this life. 1 'm not hoggish, either. I 'd givo it for ton years only. ' T don't think Carnegie is afraid of death, but he cling3 to life. Thero is a difference. T said: 'Andy, you would be bunkoed at that price.' " |
