Intelligent men throughout Utah, regardless of their church relation, will privately admit that there can be no real peace in this city and State until the politicaJ and business leaders of the Mormon church are defeated at the polls It is conceded that tho settlement of local troubles can oniy come at the end of a vigorous flpht a fight in which the true American spirit will triumph over ecclesiasticism No man who gives thought to the question of the interference of a religious re-ligious organization with the affairs of the people, will deny that it is only a question of time tualil the ecclesiastics must recede. They cannot always rule In temporal affairs. Too many thousands of their intelligent co-religionists hold, and rightfully, that the mission of the church and its ministers min-isters is to deal alone with the spiritual affairs of the people. The wise ones know that to mix religion with business and politics is to corrupt the church, the trades and the State. Realizing tho truth of these tilings, is there anything surprising that many hundreds of new recruits are seen in the ranks of the American party this yearP Is it to be wondered that most of tho intelligent and enterprising men and women of Salt Lake want the American party to winP How can the struggle end without victoryP It is as impossible to suppress sup-press the indignation nnd anger of real Americans in Utah ns it was to throttle the patriots who precipitated the revolution against King George Things were awry in America. There could be no permanent peace until the tyrant was given a tumble. Things are awry in Salt Lake and Utah. They will be even more so if Joseph F. Smith, the Apostolic Liar, Reed Smoot, Fussy Jimmy. Callis-ter, Callis-ter, Spry, and this clique of political missionaries are permitted to further run the affairs of the people. Do you not know that it was because of the manner in which these men, through ecclesiastical power, manipulated manipu-lated conventions and elections, that the people organized the American partyP Do you not know that the only way to disband the American party par-ty in to help make of Utah an American StateP The secret ballot is tho way to the goal.
