Show TRADE AND BUSINESS. The feature of the week is a consequence conse-quence of the American victory in the great inquiry for real estate that Is re-ported re-ported by the dealers. From East and from West comes the rush of letters making Inquiry, showing Interest in Salt Lake, and Indicating plainly that the city Is renowned as a choice place to Invest money, now that the burden of a commercialized church aristocracy has been lightened. Further successes by the American party will wholly lift this burden, and do great things for the city and the State. The building activity of the year has been gratifying; but it will undoubtedly undoubted-ly be much exceeded by the building of the coming year. Already extensive plans In this direction arc heard of, and these will undoubtedly be realized. An instance Is that of an outside purchaser pur-chaser of realty on State street; his design de-sign was to put up a series of onc-atory shops on the property, but now he writes that In the spring he will erect there a fine business block which will be a credit to the city The railroad situation was materially helped during the week In the abandonment aban-donment by the Government of its claim to occupy Gore canyon In Colorado Colo-rado for the reclamation service. Mr. Moffat's railway line from Denver to this city runs through that canyon, and he wished to retain It for his railroad rail-road use. The Government resisted, and In the suit that ensued, Moffat won. The decision of the Federal couit seems to be accepted by the U S. Attorney-General ns sound, and now the Moffat road will have unrestricted right of way The Immediate result of that action by tho Government was the Instruction from Mr. Moffat to let contracts which had been held up pending the conclusion of the controversy contro-versy to push work at both ends of the line, and to get on with the big tunnel throuth the main range This means, undoubtedly the construction of the road, and within about two years, or a little more, perhaps, we may expect the completion of this short line from Denver. The Western Pacific Is laklng more definite form at this end of the line.
