RESIGNS ON ACCOUNT OF FAILING HEALTH William Donald of the Missouri Pacific Will Ho His Successor. As w;iw announced In Thursday's Tribune Tri-bune but not officially confirmed, John Hickey, s;cncnil master mechanic of the Rio Grande Western, located In this city, hns resigned his position nnd will be succeeded by William Donald of the motive mo-tive power nnd machinery department of thn Missouri Pacific at St I.jiuIs. Mr. Donald arrived last evening from the Bast, being accompanied from Grand Junction by Mr Hickey The latter overs his connection with the road on account of falling health, and Immediately Immedi-ately upon Mr Donald assuming control of the department, Mr Hickey will leave for California where he will spend the winter. Mr. Hickey's Railroad Career. The retiring official has been master mechanic of the Rio Grande for nearly nine years He was horn March IM 1I", at Pulnesvllle, O.. and after graduating from college at Toronto. Ont., he served his apprenticeship with the Cuyahoga Machine company nt Cleveland. After a period of service as machinist and locomotive loco-motive engineer with the Cleveland. Palncsvllle & Ashtabula road, he went to Aurora, III, and entered Ihe employ of the C. B. & Q.. as machinist and foreman of locomotive repairs, which position po-sition he held until 1S73 Appointed Master Mechanic, In this year he wan appointed master mechnnlc of the Sheboygan & Fond du Lac road, and later held a similar position posi-tion with the Chicago & Northwestern The Milwaukee. Lake Shore & Western then eecured his services as general master mechanic, but on April 1. lt&l, he resigned that position to take the uperlntt ndency of motive power and rolling stmk of the Northern Pacific, and held that position until January 1, 1897, when he tendered his resignation. and In May of the same vcar became associated as-sociated with the Rio Grande Western. |
