Show I II IS SECRET I I Those uho believe that the only way to keep independent Mormons and lientiles who are in business from supporting the American ticket is to intimidate them, have circulated circu-lated the statement that the election judges know how a man or woman has voted. They tell the timid voter that the ballots are numbered that the number opposite the voter's name is also on the ballot and in the count may be identified. This is merely a disreputable trick. The ballot is secret. The number is on the stnb of the ballot not on the ballot it self. This fact may be demonstrated by every voter. Look on your ballot and you will see that it is not numbered. The num-ber num-ber on the stub is simply used to enable the election judges to keep track of the ballots delivered to them by the City Re- corder. If the ballot were numbered there Mould be no secrecy in voting. But it is not numbered. You can vote for any party or any candidate without any one knowing a tliini: about it. Those who circulate stories to the contrary are simply lyinjr. They are trying to intimidate you. Make your cross (X) in the circle under the American Eagle. Fold your ballot so that no name may be seen, deliver it to the election nfticer and retire, and no one can possibly say how you have voted. It will be well to examine your ballot after you o into the booth, to see whether or not there are any marks or blots on it. If there are, return it and demand a clean ballot. Do not ote a mutilated or soiled ballot. Von are entitled to a perfect one and should ote no other. |
