A matter Of recent history In county j affairs has born brought to light by the failure of Commissioner Miller to file a claim for tho month of May for conttn-gent conttn-gent expenses, a thing which he haa not failed to do since he went Into office last January. The law provides that County Commls-sinners Commls-sinners In counties having a city of the first class, that do not reside at the coun-tv coun-tv seat, shall be entitled to not more than fc,V for traveling and contingent expenses during the year Commissioner Miller It; the nr.lv One Of the present board of Salt Iko counts that resides at the county sent Bumped Against Law. When Mr. Miller went Into office last January he bumped up against this pro-vision pro-vision of the law. and at once set about to secure an act of the Legislature that would entitle him to this bonus as well as his brother members who reldo in tho countrv. The measure went along swimmingly, swim-mingly, passing one house of the Legis- Put in Claim. Fortified with this state of affairs. Commissioner Miller put In a claim for the ni.mth of January, and by representing represent-ing that the Legislature would authorize the expenditure, persuaded tho fiscal of- I fleers of the county to approve hi claim For the month Of February he put in a j similar claim, and It was likewise ap proved. I Buns Against Snng. The Legislature adjourned March 9 and Commissioner Miller's little bill, by .om? accident, had failed of passage. Notwithstanding, Not-withstanding, when the month of March H had passe, j Commissioner Miller's claim for contingent expenses was up for ap- I proval, Just the same. The County At torney and County Auditor demurred to Its payment, and refused to give their I endorsement, thus preventing fommls- sloner Miller from cashing In his little grab. Still on Guard. i Nothing daunted. Commissioner Miller at tho end of April, again demanded his little "$35 per." and signed the voucher for Its panicni County Attorney Chris-tensen Chris-tensen and Auditor Fisher were still on H guard, however, and again refused to I approve the claim Matter Curient History.
