Show BOUNTY FRAUDS AGREEMENT. Were to Receive Light Sentence for Turning State's Evidence. Judge RItchIo yesterday brought to light tho fact that an agreement was mado to get Charles W. Jones, Ed Hanna and Henry Martin light sentences In consideration consider-ation for their turning State's evldenco In the bounty fraud cases. The men wcro arraigned In his court yesterday. Tho court and District Attorney Loof-bourow Loof-bourow objected to any such arrangement, arrange-ment, saying that It savored of Illegality. They said that the maximum penalty for tho offense of conspiracy was small enough. Attorney Soren X. Chrlstensen, who defended tho men, told what tho arrangement ar-rangement was. The men wero to plead qullty to conspiracy and get a sentence of six months Imprisonment In the county Jail. This was In consideration for their turning State's evidence. The Judge would not hear of any such arrangement as this. They accordingly took until Monday Mon-day to plead, Jones took exception to the number of aliases that were ascribed to him. Ho aald his namo was plain Jones. David B. Davlcs and AVI11 Phillips pleaded plead-ed guilty. |
