J McDonnell commandant commandant commandant com com- mandant of of- the Bountiful Cadet Cadet Cadet Ca Ca- det squadron was recognized for his outstanding work inthe in inthe inthe the Civil Air Patrol leadership leadership leadership leader leader- ship program program at the Second Annual Utah Air Power Symposium Symposium Symposium Sym Sym- held at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City February 2 He was presented a trophy and anda a citation by the Utah wing of the Air Force Association Lieutenant McDonnell has been active in the Civil Air Ah Patrol Patrol Patrol Pa Pa- for over five years He spent two years as a cadet in inthe inthe inthe the Bountiful squadron before becoming a senior member In 1954 the total strength of the Bountiful Cadet squadron had fallen down to two members mem mem- bers Col Ralph B. B Otten- Otten heimer commander of the Utah wing Civil Air Patrol was about to disband the squadron but granted the last minute request of McDonnell for a chance to rebuild the squadron Today the Bountiful Cadet squadron n has 30 members and according to Colonel Otten- Otten heimer is one of the most active active active ac ac- ac- ac tive squadrons in the state Lieutenant McDonnell has attended several CAP encampments encampments encampments encamp encamp- ments as a cadet and a senior member He has taken part in local and state search and rescue rescue rescue res res- cue missions and has been active active active ac ac- ac- ac tive at Utah wing conferences Last fall he attended the Rocky Mountain Regional conference at Denver Colo In addition to his CAP activities activities activities Lt McDonnell is a member member member mem mem- ber of the Air National Guard an engineering student at the University of Utah and holds down two part time part time jobs |
