Jan. 25 The proceedings in the Llvlngston-Erlcksen contest cao this week aro progressing slowly. Tho recount of ballots bal-lots has been In progress day nnd night In the Judges' room, henco tho public Is deprived of the benefits of the hearing. Monday evening eve-ning tho count showed a gnln of six for Livingston. Liv-ingston. Tuesday evening Erlcksen had gained fle. so this morning It Is about a stand-off. Pouches or bags from Gunnison, Fountain Green, Mllburn and Mt. Pleasant precincts hove been opened nnd the ballots counted. All thoso ballots that nro quntoned nro laid aside and will bo considered In open court. All recounts, so far, have been mado et the request of counsel for Livingston. It Is cx-prctod cx-prctod that when they nro through counsel for Erlcksen will aek to have a recount of the bal- i lots from some of tho districts In MantI and Ephralin. One witness was brought from Mt. Pleasant, Pleas-ant, by whoee evidence It was expected to show that Illegal registration had been dono. It was claimed thnt he was not a citizen. I'pon being questioned. It was found that ho camo to this country when t years old. Ills mother. blng a wldon. married later, and her husband being a citizen, tho young man was thereby naturalized. He was excused without going on tho witness-stand.
