Show j FOUND BOGUS MONEY MINT. Secret Service Agents Unearth Plant for Making S5 Bills. NEW YORK, Dec. 19. Secret service Agents are reported to have succeeded In locating in this city the materials and printing presses used in counterfeiting counterfeit-ing "Indian-head" live-dollar bills which have been extensively floated nil over the Eastern States. A long campaign cam-paign against the gang culminated last week in the arrest of Charles Adamson, who Is now in Jail at New Haven, Conn. Great secrecy has been thrown about the case, and Secret Service Agent Flynn, who handled the case, refuses to discuss It. Adamson was kept In the local lo-cal agency of tho department three days and nights before the case was completed. com-pleted. He was arrested in a furnished room In Eighth avenue, where It is alleged al-leged he was negotiating for the sale of some notes. The supposed buyer was a detective, and ho arrested Adamson on the spot. No trace of the printing outfit out-fit could be found, however, and this being be-ing the most Important part, the search was continued over a wide section of the city. Information finally was obtained ob-tained and the materials were gathered In at different houses. Adamson asserted to bo well connected con-nected In this city. He is highly educated, edu-cated, and is said to bo one of the cleverest clev-erest men of the kind in America, but Is asserted to have become a user of opium, which, of course, ho was not permitted per-mitted to have after his arrest. Quantities of paper and ink enough lo print a million dollars' worth of fives were found In many hiding places about the city. There was a press and a photographer's outfit, together with many delicate instruments and tho coloring col-oring materials of the skilled counter- fAdamson wns taken to Connecticut for hearing because a case has already been worked up there In which two of his alleged accomplices are under indictment. |
