The funeral of Frank Shcfllln. who committed suicide yesterday morning, was held today from Larkln's undertaking undertak-ing parlors. E. G. Rector was this morning sentenced sen-tenced to sixty days on the rock pllo by Judge Howell on the chargo of pcttv larceny. Train No. 1 left Ogden at 3:25 p. m. and reached Laughton shortly after dark. The engineer discovered a large boulder in tho middle of tho track and stopped the locomotive, when ho discovered dis-covered that tho switch lock had been broken and tho switch opened. The hall was crowded and the meeting was quite enthusiastic. A unique present has been presented to Chief Engineer Hood of the Southern Pacific Pa-cific by Eugene Bell, an employee on the cut-on. The present consists of a huge frame circular In form and about six feeto In diameter all of crystallged salt. Mr? Bell has manufactured the frame of wire; in the center ho drew the section oX a trestlo oh the cut-off, ties and rallB worked In with wire. Leading Line of the World " After completing the wire framework, Mr. Bell placed tho frame In the lake and every section of the wlro was encrusted with salt crystals to tho depth of half an Inch. The frame was then removed and after it had become thoroughly dry tho salt turned pure white, the crystals giving off the most beautiful rellectlon when struck by the light, and It Is cnlranclngly beautiful. It will be placed in the general offices In San Francisco, and another one. similar, will be placed at the Union depot in Ogden. Tho County Commissioners held a special spe-cial meeting this afternoon to consider tho West Weber school matter. Representatives Representa-tives of both sides were heard and the board directed the trustees of the district to bring In complete data on the situation, that the proper lew might be mado for the payment of the $2000 loan to Mr. Eth-rlnston. |
