Show 1 Out of Town Politics Democrats Playing Gumshoe Game. Special to The Tribune. J'N'T. July 2S.-New developments In politics in Sanpete county are lapld lhe.o days. Judging from what is seen on the surface and from the now developments that come In rapid succession, the subsurface sub-surface developments must be something wonderful. Few of the Democrata locally havo ventured so far Into politics aa to come out as candidates. Of late some of the prominent ones are advocating the plan openly of not putting up a county ticket as the only successful means of defeating tho Republicans In this county These say that there Is no hope, for the Democrats in the county as long as the Democrats put up a ticket In opposition to the Republican ticket, since al factions of tho Republican pacty will join to tight the common enemy, but once lot them bo in thn field without opposition and the party will overthrow itself by internal in-ternal dlssenGlous. The advocates of this plan reprimand tho enthusiastic of thofr party with the "I told you so." aa they way that they have advocated the same plan in both city and county politics for the past two or three 'years, and they no nt the r enthnlnHM K, ' brethren to the fact that notwithstanding the ante-clectlon factlonnl fights (and they have been many and bitter) and dissensions dis-sensions In the Republican ranks, as soon as the .Democratic opposition has Iwen discovered, the factions havo all united and tho almost Invariable result has been Increased Republican majorities in cltv and county. ,lJ Theso Democrats are not sincere Tho plan Is advocated In order to perform n coup upon the Republican party this voar and they think that by remamlng In tho background ar, long ns powlble. the factional fac-tional fights In the Republican party will hecomo so bitter that the minority fa" Uons will Join 'them In order to chnstiso the malority factions. Tho Republicans are seemlnclv tnWinr-little tnWinr-little notice of tho DemocrTtSiay" the candidates continue to appenr on the Republican side. The last tw duys havo brought forth a number of new candl datro and also a number of changes In tho status of the candidates heretnfn.i nounccd. There is an interesting in-teresting Held in Sanpete county for we canvass for Governor. Secretary Hammond Ham-mond and Gov. Wells are well novn here, while Cutler is not known, it is hard to tell who la in the lead. Even Break for Hammond and Wells. Special to The Tribune, RICHFIELD, July . 29. "K11?61!;: Piute county, is tho place to go If jou aro looking tor tho real thing In pontics, said Lars II. Oufzen. ex-Mayor of Rlcb-iitu. Rlcb-iitu. pic-ilaeni oi the Annlo Laurlo Extension Ex-tension Mining company and a heavy stockholder In the Western Exploration company. "What few residents of Khn-berly Khn-berly there arc who aro not red-hot Republicans Re-publicans are divided between tho Democrats Dem-ocrats and .Socialists, and the Socialists seem to bo growing -rapidly. Almost Invariably In-variably their recruits come from among thn dlssatimiud Democrats and that variety vari-ety of Democrats are numerous there. "I even heard tho boast made in Klm-berlv Klm-berlv thnt tho Socialists expi-et'lhls year to carry Piute county, but such a claim is absurd. It Is true that that party is grjwlng, but their growth Is not injuring injur-ing tho Republican party perceptibly. On the other hand. It Is common to hear of additions to tho f. o. p. from among tho erstwhile lenders of th Democracy. The source of tho Socialistic stnmpedo Is a mystery to mo. unless it is explained by my first 3iatemont, lhat so many Democrats Dem-ocrats ore getting sore over broken pledces. 'Hammond nnd Wells appear to be tho moat popular aspirants for the gubernatorial guberna-torial nomination among the Piute Re-publlcncs. Re-publlcncs. Cutler Is not known there and Is never mentioned. As between Hammond and Wells, the former seems to lead up to date, although pcrsonully I am strictly in favor of the Governor. The only argument I ever hoard against him Is tho third term bugaboo, and that looks ridiculous to mc. We havo a foreman fore-man at the Annie Lnurio Extension who has served two terms. If some dlrectdV should propose that wo llro him and givo a now man tho Job simply because the foreman had been In two terms and tho other fellow should havo a show, thcro being no other objection to the foreman, who, on the other hand, Is dally growing grow-ing more proficient. It would be about equal to the third term roar being raised against Gov. Wells, becnusc the Governor Gov-ernor is the publlc!s servant. "Don't bo worrled'abbut Piute not going Republican. The boys made a brilliant light and landed her solid two years ago and there la absolutely no reason to fear she will retrograde to the column of tho great unwashed. "Tho 60reness over the Stato Senatorial flfhf nnma tn Virion hnnn Vinnlnsl I, now looks ns though Senator Willis Johnson John-son of Clrclevllle, who Is tho Incumbent, will socuro the solid delegation of Pltlte county for renomination at tho Tonth district dis-trict convention at Richfield on August 27. Senator Kearns Is very strong in thnt county. For a tlmo it looked as if the sovero criticisms of the senior Sonator by the rival factions had slumped his stock In that region, but now tho reaction has set In. People do not bello'e the hnrd things said about Koarns and those samo hard things aro serving ns a boomerang to the follows who said them. Georgo Sutherland has somo staunch friends In Piute, but they do not like his recent amalgamations. I bollovo tho man who looks out for his own candldncy and does not presume to dictate tho entire Stato ticket or put In with other self-appointed dictators stands tho best show to win. and that appears now to bo tho general Impression of Senator Kearns." Proclnct Chairman Jacob M. Laurltzen has Issued calls for two primaries for Richfield, one on August 5, to elect delegates, dele-gates, to the Sevier county convention of August 17, which county convention will elect fourtoen delegates to the Stato convention; and the secorid primary on August 12, to elect twenty-seven delegates to the Sovler county convention of September Sep-tember 3, which will nominate a Representative Repre-sentative and the entire county ticket Tho party was never In bettor shape hi this city, by far the largest In tho county, and this vear'a Rennhilnnn mo ! be tho biggest In Its history.
