Show Piuto Republicans for Hammond. Special to The Tribune. RICHFIELD, July 31. Piute county is safely Republican," emphatically stated Joseph H. Nelson, who is spending spend-ing a few clays in Richfield. Mr. Nelson Nel-son Is one of the prominent mining men of this clt"y. where his residence Is, owning extensive Interests In GoM Mountain district, Piute county. Just at this time he Is devoting his chief attention to tho Signal Peak, of which he Is general manager. "It Is true that there has been somo little disagreement disagree-ment in the party in Piute," he added. "There are wings and factions thero Just as there are every place where some one leader or some one clique has not absolute control of the lay members; but the bitterness of the fight Is passing and by convention time I look to see harmony completely restored. re-stored. "The trouble arose from an old difference dif-ference between the friends of Senator Willis Johnson and those of Attorney Gilbert R. Beebe. The details would not interest and do not concern any one on the outside. This old disagreement disagree-ment cropped out last in the contest Mr. Beebe entered for the Republican nomination for Sixth District Attorney. The Beebe people claimed that Senator Johnson was still against them, but Plule went solid for Beebe Just the same, and though Beebe was defeated for the nomination by Joe Erickson of Richfield, the outcome. 1 think, will ultimately prove a patching of the old misunderstandings and the nomination of Senator Johnson this year to succeed suc-ceed himself in the Senate. Senator Johnson is a strong Kearns man and so Is Attorney Beebe, and since Bishop Wilson of Wayne county Is coming to the Senatorial convention to make a fight for the nomination as a Sutherland Suther-land adherent It Is probable that tho Plutcs will hang together to defeat that move, although they may not be the best of friends on other Issues. Sevier ccunty, I understand, has strong timber tim-ber that might be pressed Into service, but Sevier feels that one of the outside out-side counties should have the nomination nomina-tion and will not likely exercise Its power to name the next district Senator, Sena-tor, although having a majority of all the votes In the district. , "Secretary Hammond seems to be on top In the skirmish for nomination for Governor In Piute county. Personally, Person-ally, I am for Governor Wells, chelfly for the reason, I guess, that I know him best and because I don't care a fig about the third term bar. But Ham-mnd Ham-mnd Is certainly tho most popular aspirant as-pirant In Piute county as a whole. "There has been an attempt to prejudice preju-dice some of the Kimberly Republicans against Mayor Christiansen. I have heard the rumor that Swen O. Nielsen of Sanpeto is also out for that same nomination, but again I understand that his announcement was unauthorized and that already he Is out of the race." AO Charles DeMoIsey Is still In Wayne county laboring with the Republicans of that bailiwick to get together for Bishop Heber Wilson, the Sutherland aspirant for the Tenth district Senator-rial Senator-rial nomination. From here Mr. DeMoIsey De-MoIsey will go south through Piute. Garfield. Kane and other counties of-that of-that section. This activity by the Utah county push In tho affairs of the southern south-ern cow counties is stimulating the home politicians to hold their own territory ter-ritory in line for their own candidates. What most nettles the local leaders Is the fact that this push Is also booming Glazier for State Treasurpr against Mayor Christiansen of Richfield, and Christiansen's many warmi friends are offsetting this attempt wlth'vlgor. The Sevier county chairman, Col. John Meteer, has Issued to the central commlteemen, precinct chairmen and league club officers a circular, urging them to gather in the many unnaturalized unnatural-ized Republicans of Sevier, to make a complete canvas for registration, to shape up their precinct organizations, to organize new league clubs, to arrange ar-range now for campaign music and to get their finances In shape so as to pay campaign bills as they come. The party was never In better shape In Sevier and will give a Republican majority that will surprise those who have not closely studied the conditions. |
