Tho plaintiff is seeking to get a dlvorco for alleged desertion, claiming that the defendant left her on October 21, 1902. She alleged In her complaint that her husband hus-band was ln receipt of a salary of about ?o00 per month and asked that sho bo awarded alimony ln tho sum of $100. Mr. Read stated that his present salary wa3 $200 per month. Ho admitted doing considerable speculation in mining stocks, but gavo It aa his experience that a gambler gam-bler ln stocks loses more often than ho wins. Mr. Read said that his daughter. Emily, owned fifty shares of stock ln -tho Sliver King Mining company, which had been given to her by Dald Keith for services rendered by the defendant ln securing a controlling Interest In certain mining properties. His daughter's Income from tho stock, he said, was f-33.33 per month. Both the plaintiff and the defendant aro well known ln Salt Lake. Mrs Read Is the daushtcr of William F. JamCs, who was defeated by Frank Knox for the nomination nom-ination of Mayor In tho last campaign. Mr. Read Is a well-known mining man.
