Show THE COMMANOER'S VSIT. The presence In this city of Commander Com-mander Booth-Tucker deserved moro recognition from the public than It rc-r eolved. He is a speaker worth hearing, and his theme was one of especial Interest In-terest to the people of this city at this time. First, this community is In need of precisely tho sort of rescue work that Is being done by the Salvation Army. Eoys (the Y. M. C. A. might start a successful mission for their reclamation reclama-tion and preservation) and erring girls (whom the Salvation Army Is especially zealous to reform and save), are too many here for their cases to be much longer left to the aole management of the Police court and tho Reform school. They need reclamation and reform, but they also need support In right conduct, tender watchfulness and encouragement en-couragement to do right. "We Bhoqld be glad to see the visit of this eminent humanitarian made the occasion of a much-needed move here for the formation of special efforts for the betterment and well being of the boys and grs who are too muoh pn the streets and whose erring courso Ih not so much from natural perversity or depravity as from Ignorance Igno-rance and the lack of proper encouragement, encourage-ment, Incentive and support in doing right. Then, the Commander's colony system, sys-tem, tlje planting of colonies from the overcrowded cities, on farms in Colorado and California, is a move to appeal to the public interest In this place of Irrigation, and colonizing; the people here aro pursuing that sort of work all the time, and with great success, On all accounts, then, Mr. Booth-Tucker Booth-Tucker should have received a more onthualaallo welcomo tbap ho did. "We trust that ho may not be discouraged, however, but that he may come many times, and be better welcomed on each Vjslt. |
