| Show HARMONY IN I IRRIGATION The movement for the consolidation of the five Irrigation companies of this county Into one Is unquestionably the best thing possible It should be carried car-ried through to success and we arc glad lo note that there la I a disposition to do this AR stated at the meeting of the cunal companies yesterday It Is hopeless to expect aid from tho general Government under tIn National irrigation Irriga-tion law until the elements of opposition opposi-tion and contention have been cllmlat ed The feeling at the meeting was of the right sort on this point and an excellent committee strong practical and able was named to present plans for consolidating the Interests Involved The work Is In good hands and a report re-port may he expected that Will commend com-mend itself to the Judgment of all concerned con-cerned There Isalsoanother thing of high Importance in this connection For a number of years efforts have been mode to pass a satisfactory Irrigation statute stat-ute In Utah It is admitted that our legislation on thissubject Is far behind that of California or Wyoming But It Is I necessary that these laws be brought up to date It 1e would receive re-ceive that portion of the benefit fr ltl1 the National statute to which wo arc entitled Suppose there were two prop osltonn for the reclamation of arid land or the better utilization of tho water for Irrigation purposes one being be-ing In a State which has uptodate efficient and Just Irrigation laws and the other In a State whose legislation is antiquated scrappy inefficient The engineers report that from their standpoint stand-point the projects are of equal merit Then the question naturally arises how about lie control oC this Irrigation water after the improvement Is mode what arc the IILWB I of the State In regard re-gard to this Can any one be In doubt which Stale would get the Governments Govern-ments attention 1 Utah has some of the finest opportunities that there are for tho application of tho national Irrigation Ir-rigation LOW but before we can expect lo have much notice taken of them we shall have to prepare our les to receive re-ceive the benefits desired Utah prep arallons must consist first In harmony of effort and of equal Importance In the enactment of an Irrigation code that will receive the approval of the National authorities which at present ours docs not |
