Show DELAY IN PAVING Indignation Expressed at Condition of Street at Main and South Temple The Indignation of the people of the city grows dally over the unreasonable delay In the paving of South Temple street at the Intersection with Main and east from that point to State f = The Indications now are that nothing further fur-ther will be done till spring and asa as-a result the btrcct will be In a horrible I condition all winter an much of the excavation has been done Now Instead In-stead of putting In the concrete and asphalt the Street Improvement company com-pany that has the contract Is lining In tho excavations with loose dirt and this will be converted Into a bottomless mass of mud with the first heavy fall of rain or snow The argument Is made by the representatives repre-sentatives of the company that If the concrete were put In now It would require re-quire ten days to settle and that It might be ruined by freezing before the asphalt could be put on Some of those who are Impatient over the delay say that the company doesnt want to keep the men on salary till tho concrete settles set-tles and Is aiming to save money by letting them out now for the wlntei There was ontj man cutting stone for curbing yesterday afternoon The contract con-tract time of the Street Improvement company expired November 10th A petition pe-tition was tiled at that time with the Board of Public Works for an extension exten-sion of time but the Board has taken no action In the matter The company com-pany Is clearly liable to a forfeit under Its contract with the city The streetcar company Is pushing the work of paving with stone blocks between and on each side of the rails and will soon have its part of the work In good condition It cannot complete Its part of the work till the street lu l paved The city will pave with stone blocks immediately around the BrIg ham Young statue and out to the streetcar street-car tracks |
