Show THE MONEY FROM SUGAR BEETS The magnitude of the operations of the Lchl sugar factory is admirably shown in the large amounts of money paid out for beets and for labor both being In fact for labor for It takes labor and lots of It to raise beets The statement Is that over a quarter of a million dollars has been paid this season sea-son by this company for beets along the country covered by these payments ranging from Salt Lake county to Wasatch and Sevier county Besides I there was paid on Tuesday last 2000 I for labor about the factory itself This i makes a total of 5271000 paid within the week the payments to the farmers having hav-ing been made on Saturday t last It IB pleasant to note that the output or the factory will be far greater than ever The total product of the year was reckoned at twelve thousand tons but it is now practically sure that this will be much exceeded while extraordinary runs are noted Thus the run for the twentyfour hours beginning last Friday is given as 1311 tons of beets out and HUGO tons of sugar made or 1126000 pounds an average ave-rage of 218 pounds of sugar to every ton of beets and It Is likely that this Is a fair average yield for it would cost more than it would come to to select beets for a special run like that The average run for ten days was 1200 tons of beets and 2770 bags of sugar which again carries out not far from the same average The factory at Ogden is doing better also than hint year and will doubtless produce in the neighborhood of ten million mil-lion pounds of sugar compared with nine million pounds last yen I The Logan factory also will show a good increase In-crease The factory ul Garland is now this year it will start up about next Monday on Its first run and will run till about New Years day and will cut twenty i thousand tons of beets The factory at Idaho Falls which starts tomorrow to-morrow will have a two months run and will cut something over forty thousand thou-sand ions of heels say about half the cut of the Lehi factory which will be about ninetyfive thousand tons Doubtless the amount of money paid to the armors by all these plants will reach if it does not pass SCOOOOO a tidy sum of ready cash coming just when the farmers need it and making an income in-come which could not bo equaled by the yield of any other crop per 1 > acre in this region I I |
