| Show GRAND JURY IS GALLED Formal Order Made by Judge M6rse Yesterday SCOPE OF INVESTIGATION Field May Prove Broader Than First Thought Vcniro FKcoon Names to Be Drawn and Jury Will Sit During April Term The initial step toward the formation of the grand Jury that is to make an Inquiry Into conditions existing In Salt Lake county was made yesterday afternoon after-noon when Judge Morse of the criminal division of the District court ordered that a venire of fifteen names he drawn Out of that number the neven members of the grand jury will be selected SITS DURING APRIL By the terms of yesterdays order the jury will sit during the April term of the court as was at llrst planned The term opens April 13th but the grand jury cannot sit on that date as It Is already occu pled by the Elllron Vat mn murder case which will hold the right of way It IB regarded as probable however that a continuance ii1tf be granted In the rase which will give the grand Jury an opportunity to sit the following day FIELD HAS WIDENED According to officials who are in touch with the matter the scope of the I grand Jurys operations has been considerably con-siderably widened since the first conception con-ception or the idea l It Is said its career will be one for history to expand upon unless indications fall TUDGTJ MORSES ORDER The formal 1 order as issued flom the District court yesterday Is as follows In the District court of the Third Judicial Ju-dicial district In and for the county of Salt Lake Stale of Utah Department No 3 Whereas It Is the opinion of the court and of the Judge thereof that the public interests demand the drawing and Kum moiling of a t grand jury to serve In the April term A D JP03 of thin court It Is therefore ordered tlml the clerk of this court proceed according to Jaw to draw from the jury box of this county the names or fifteen 05 persons to serve as grand Jurors for the regular April 1M3 term of this court I Dated this 25th day of March A D 1903 C W MORSE District Judge presiding in the criminal department of paid court |
