Show BUSINESS AND POLITICS Business Men Take Off Their Coats to Work for Knox It Is sometimes asserted that business busi-ness and politics do not mix And yet who has a greater Interest in local politics at least than the businessman business-man The city government In one sense Is but a mammoth business proposition In which the citizens are stockholders The business man as a rule Is one of the larger stockholders and his interest In who shall administer the affairs of the city should at least correspond to tilt extent of his holdings In the corporation cor-poration The Tribune finds that the businessmen business-men of Salt Lake are deeply interested in the approaching city election both from the standpoint of what might bu termed selfish interest antI from the broader standpoint of citizenship which considers the greatest good to the greatest number WORKING FOR KNOX A large percentage of these businessmen business-men have taken off their coats and me working hard for Frank Knox for Mayor Some of them do not consider it good buslncis policy to have their views quoted in the public prints but they are outspoken u hen speaking to their Intimate friends on the subject and this kind oC work always counts Others however do not heiliate to 1 n n ajJVIJt VUL UJJllIi Oily Ui VK5lUll LOT lllwj consider it a straight business proposition propo-sition In which all the people are Interested In-terested and they know that all good citizens will concede to them the right to express their opinions unreservedly upon a matter of so much moment WHAT THEY SAY The Tribune finds that the consensus of opinion among business men iv gar less of political affiliations on the Mayoralty situation Is this Complaint has often been made that broad men of affairs successful busincst men if you please am never be found who will sacrifice their own Interests lo the extent of accepting public office the most responsible positions being usually filled by the professional politicians poli-ticians Would it not therefore be Inconsistent If not suicidal when we have the opportunity to place In the position of municipal chief executive a most successful business man of known Integrity and worth would It not bo the most damaging policy imaginable to fail to take advantage of such an opportunity ENTHUSIASTIC FOR KNOX This Is what representative businessmen business-men are thinking and saying and are not all citizens business men III greater or less degree In visiting at random nearly a score of business men yesterday a Tribune representative found not one who had aught to urge against Frank Knox an u man well calculated to fill the office of Mayor and with very few exceptions they were enthusiastic in his support LET WELL ENOUGH ALONE We are well satisfied with the Republican Re-publican administration of the citys affairs and are willing to let well enough alone said Lester D Freed vicepresident of the Freed Furniture and Carpet company The pant year has been the best we have ever had in a bubinesy way and we see no reason rea-son for a change Moreover we know Mr Knox to be a safe conservative business man and arc satisfied that he will give us a business administration and that Is what we want I dont know of a better man that could have been chosen for the place He will favor progress and yet will have the jualneas capacity und executive ability to keep things within reasonable bounds There are chances now for home large Improvements In Salt Lake and I believe Mr Knox to be just the man who should be placed in charge of them GIVE GOOD ADMINISTRATIONS ADMINISTRATION-S V Shclp manager of Walkers store said I favor Mr Knox for Mayor because I am a Republican and I know he Is a good man for thc place I do not know the other candidates but there Is no question about Mr Knox being capable of giving us n good administration HIGH PRAISE FOR KNOX I have known Mr Knox well the past fourteen yearn or ever since he came tot Salt Lake said L A Cohn the wellknown Main street merchant and I can say that he Is a sterling reliable conservative business man Such a 7ran having been nominated by a representative Republican convention con-vention In this country where majorities majori-ties rule there should of course be no question about every Republican supporting sup-porting him and the ticket Mr Knox will certainly make as good a Mayor as Salt Lake has ever had He will no doubt do everything In the Interest of progress that the city requires I am sure that he will do nothing of which the citizens need be ashamed The character of the man Is assurance that as Mayor he will surround himself him-self with the best people to be found to assist him in carrying out his policies poli-cies I know that partisanship will cut no figure with him In perfoimlng his duty as he sees It And another thing Mr Knox could never have made the success he has in his own business had he been a chump and what we want as much ay anything else In public pub-lic affairs is intelligence SAFE BUSINESS MAN I am for Frank Knox because he is a safe conservative business man and at the same time progressive said G R Cleaveland oC the Cleaveland Commission company The affairs of the city will be safe in his hands and there will be something doing I am always for the nominee of my party whether he Is my personal choice or not but In this case there is no good reason why any Republican should hot the ticket BEST FOR CITYS WELFARE Charles Cottrell grocer at 17G Mead street said I am for Mr Knox of course His reputation as a businessman business-man and as a citizen is of the highest and he will give us a good business administration ad-ministration Then there is no doubt that the continued application of Republican
