Show GORDON ACADEMY Gordon Academy will open Septem her 9lh with batter equipments and brighter prospects than t ever before The work of i the last year has been very encouraging the I number of pupils enrolled having more than doubled over that of the preceding year At present there Is every indication of a still larger Increase In order to accommo date the new students t the management has considered It ncceSJmry to finish tIll girls dormitory which wns begun live years ago The completed building which Is a large twostory brick fur nacehealed and lighted by electric lights has accommodations for twenty two girls Mitts Caroline Paine will remain ns principal of the academy and will have charge of the depart men t of Modern Languages Miss > Paine WW for several years teacher In the Salt Lake High school and her ability and success can lift easily proven from the regard shown her by the graduates of that Institu tion To her efforts arc largely l due not only the growth of Gordon Academy Acad-emy and the collection of funds for the now dormitory but also the present flourishing condition of the New West I I schools throughout the Stale Mlas Elizabeth Clarahan who has also been a most cfliclcnt teacher In the High school will have charge of Eng lish and History Miss Atchison who received the de gree of A 13 from Colorado college and who has been In the academy during the past year will continue as teacher of Latin and Greek In order to supply the need of a pri vate school below the academy the seventh and eighth grades have been added Miss Ahby Bishop who for many years has been one of the inost popular teachers in the public schools will teach these two grades The Institution has houn especially fortunate In obtaining for the branches of Mathematics and Science Mr Mer lon II JamlcHon of Elgin III Mr Ja mleson graduated from Oberlln in J9fi and in 1001 obtained from the same col lege tho degree of Master of Arts lIe hui been for three years instructor In the High school of Elgin 111 and was again rceleclcd During his college course he < was a member of the varsity baseball team and since his gradua Uon has kept up an enthusiastic Inter est In athletics |
