Show 10LAYINfi LAYINfi OF THE Aruvrprsi rT < TMVTin CORNER STONE Of First Church of Christ Scientist Concord New Hampshire the Gift of the Rev Mary Baker G i Eddy Ceremony Occurred Today at 2 P M CONCORD N IL July lSThe cornerstone cor-nerstone of the new edifice which Mrs Eddy has contributed to the Scientists of Concord N H was laid Thursday afternoon at 2 oclock The following wos the order of service Scriptural reading 1st Corinthians 3 912 Ephesians 2r 1022 Silent prayer followed by the Lords prayer repeated by all present 1 The following address from the Rev Mary Baker Eddy was then read First Church of Christ Scientist Concord N H Beloved Brethren This day drops down upon the glories of summer It Is a glad day In attune with faiths fond trust We live In an age of LOCH divine adventure to be all In all This day Is the natal hour of my lone earth life and for all mankind man-kind today hath Its gloom and glory It cndureth all things It points to the new birth heaven here tho struggle ocrIt profits by the past and joys In the present today lends a newborn beauty to holiness patience charity love Having all faith In Christian Science we must have faith In whatever manifests mani-fests love for God and man The burden bur-den of proof that Christian Science Is science rests on Christian Scientists The letter without the spirit Is dead It is the spirit that heals the sick and the sinnerthat makes the heart tender ten-der faithful true Most men and women wo-men talk well and some practice what they say God has blessed and will bless this dear band of brethren he has laid the chief cornerstone of the temple which today you commemorate tomorrow complete and thereafter dedicate to truth and love 0 may your temple and all who worship therein stand through all time for God and humanity human-ity MARY BAKER G EDDY The cornerstone was then placed Tje exercises concluded with a repetition rep-etition of the following prayer from tho Church Manual oJ Thy kingdom com let the reign of truth and love be established In me rule me and rule out of me all sin The church Is a gift of the Rev Mary Baker G Eddy to the Concord Scientists Scien-tists and Includes a total outlay on her part of 5120000 This sum la also being supplemented by gifts from friends Recently Boston Scientists presented Mrs Eddy with the t property adjoining the orIginal estate which Is said to have cost In tho neighborhood of 14 000 This property will be added to the church Jot which Is 155 feet deep by 102 feet front The building will be of Concord granite It Is 120xSO feet and will accommodato 1000 persons The architecture Is Gothic The church Includes In-cludes besldetf the auditorium a read ingroom retiring rooms for the readers read-ers and a room set apart for Mrs Ed dys use when she visits the church The building committee are Messrs Fred R Ladd Joseph Dwight and J Wesley Plummer of Concord |
