Show NO CONCLUSION YET WASHINGTON PUSIONISTS HAVE NOT NAMED TICKET I Three Conventions in Seattle Have I I I Transacted but Little Busines Thus j I Par Matters in Committee Hands jI j I I I l I Seattle Wash Aug 291he three j I conventions now assembled In this city t l for the purpose of putting in nomlna Ilion i I-lion a union ticket tg oppose the Republicans i Re-publicans In the coming elections transacted little more than routine business today The scene of activity I has been transferred from the larger bodies to the committee of fifteen chosen five from each convention I which after two protracted sessions today and several conferences tonight I have not reached any agreement satisfactory I sat-isfactory to the conventions In the Democratic convention the 1 I I forces of Gov Rogers sustained another an-other defeat today when the live members I mem-bers of the conference committee were j appointed All of these arc opposed to the Governor lhe Populists committee commit-tee of five is also antiRogers white the Silver Republicans are friendly to tho Governor The committee stands l I ten to lIve against Gov Rogers So far the only thing decided by the conferees Is that all elected delegates to the three conventions shall be entitled en-titled tp scats In the union convention each delegate to be given one full vote The Democrats and Populists on the committee agreed that a twothirds vote in the union convention should be necessary for a nomination against this the Silver Republicans protested i as it is conceded that Gov Rogers has I I not such 8lreiJ2lh On the other hand the Populists and Silver Republicans agreed that the I ticket to be named should be ofllcially I recognized as the Peoples party ticket The Democratic conferees also agreea to this but on reporting back to their convention the action was repudiated and the conferees instructed to insist on the Democratic name as first pie ceOent to any action looking toward a union convention It is maintained by Populists that If the Democrats will allow them to name the Governor they will surrender the party name As all the leading candidates can-didates for the Governorship arc Democrats Dem-ocrats this would bring out a Populist Popu-list daiK horse for the nomination Ncal Choetham of Whitman county present Stato Auditor Is said to bo the man in view vierite rite Democrats however profess to t believe that tho Populists will weaken on both points and that the name and the candidate for Governor will both come from the Democratic convention Voorhees of Spokane IB believed to control the majority of the Democratic I opposition to Rogers although Faw cett of Pierce lu l still an active candidate candi-date The supporters of Gov Rogers cau causcd the convention this evening and will light for their candidate to tho end They now say that he will have a small majority In the union convention busing bus-ing the claim on his support from the Silver Republicans and strength which Is I said to be available at the proper time among the Populists and Democrats Demo-crats In the Populist convention tonight on a question of electing a chairman of the State central committee the Spokane Spo-kane delegation of fortyone which has hitherto voted against RopersK Interests In-terests went over to his side It Is claimed however that this was duo to personal 1 disfavor of the antlRogcrs candidate for chairman and does not indicate Unit the Spokane delegation vJilll support the Governor in the union convention The conventions will reassemble re-assemble at ti20 oclock tomorrow morning L |
