Show WORK OF W C T U Reports Showing What Has Been Done in the Jails At the regular meeting of the Wo mans Christian Temperance union yesterday semiannual reports of the work carried on at the penitentiary and the jails In the city were given Mrs Rathbone reporting for the penitentiary peniten-tiary and the county jail MrsSpenco for the clly Jail Both reports were listened lis-tened to with deep Int relt by the members of the union and both showed progress in the work undertaken under-taken bv the noble women who each week devote a I portion of their time In an endeavor to uplift the Inmates of the Institutions referred to Owing lo the smallpox scare these visits were not as numerous as they otherwise would have heen eleven visits having been made lo the penitentiary 1 twentyeight w the county Jail Over JOO t papers and magazlnc iwore dlslr I i butcd besides a number ofbook Four released prisoners have been assisted in various ways tQ start uucw on honorable hon-orable lines and these men were reported re-ported as doing well The growth of tho Christian Endeavor Endeav-or society among the prisoners at tIm penitentiary was also ieforred to it having now a membership of about fifty with much enthusiasm shown by the officers and members The first president of the society has through the Infiuence of friends been enabled to enter the Moody Bible Training Institute Insti-tute and it Is hoped by those who know the young man that he will be I Instrumental In bringing many others Into a knowledge of the Gospel |
