Saints were not I S fp held together by threats or by fear but by lovo of the Gospel He said that timeS I time-S Saints were not very Important numbers S num-bers not very Important because of S m afternoon session said that his mind had dwelt a great deal of late upon the lack of reverence for the priesthood which exists today Ho spoke of Joseph Smith President Young President Taylor and President Presi-dent Wood i uff UK men of the purest I noblest rharactois and said lie al i ways had the greatest reverence for them To President Snows character he paid the same high tribute but said he did not believe that many of the ciders realized that President Snow was the mouthpiece of God upon the earth I and ho Judged this by the want of reference ref-erence the lack of respect the absence I ab-sence of a disposition to be governed j by the counsel of God and said VI I tell you there never was In this church f to my knowledge such an absence of I respect and reverence for the authority of God as there Is now among this people peo-ple A great many men seem to think that their way Is far better than anyone any-one elses way and though we believe and testify that God has a prophet In lour midst still wo will not come and ask for the word for fear we shall be told something that docs not agree with our wishes and that which we desire to accomplish MUST DO BETTEr OR GO TO HELL 1As sure as God lives there has got to be 0 change In this respect or some men will go to hell and n good lan of them too God will not put up with it I would not dare to do anything of an Important character without consulting con-sulting the man of God Every man or woman enjoys a free agency but we have C right to exercise It In doing right or In doing that which God wants us to 10 HUSBANDS MUST STAY AT HOME Apostle John Hpnry Smith I assured the Latterday Saints that In their work there should be no such word as fall that it was the decree of Providence Prov-idence that the work should succeed He then spoke of the desirability of having closer relations between husband hus-band and wife of time doing away with tho dudes which call husbands from hell homes In the evenings Apostle I Smith said there was no responsibility placed upon men greater than taking care of their own that children should be guarded and guided and directed by the fathers and did not believe that I duty requhod any father to be absent 0 from his home every night In the week He thought the lack of reverence due the priesthood referred to by President Cannon was chargeable to the parents because they had allowed their boys and girls to get from under their t Inn In-n uenc and after this I had happened the parents did not sceuj to possess tho tact to regain the confidence of their children J Ie acknowledged that there were evils among the youth of Zion but said it was because the boys were unguarded and the girls were left to the prey of the vicious and the Impure and this because unwise parents had failed to learn anything by the experiences ex-periences of their own lives VALIANT ANDCOURAGEOUS Apostle George Teasdale OPUlli i1n few minutes at the close of the afternoon after-noon session He said the Saints were the most valiant and courageous people on the face of the earth He saidthai the Lord did 1 not icrjulro of tH I Saints a blind obedlenco to his teachings The bad reputation l which the Saints have always had he said was attributable to those who despise the commandment to not bear destl witness against ones neighbor He bald that the world has always accepted the false and rejected re-jected the true prophets of tho Lord The speaker further said that the whole duty of man was to serve God and keep his commnncInTSds and It mattered mat-tered not who might be displeased by It I t I I PENALTY OF NONPAYMENT t Speaking1 of tithing Apostle Tpas dale said l that men who did not pay r their tithing drank of damnation tihing dnmnnton every Lime they partook of the sacrament because by 1 that act they pretend to belle in the commandments of the Lord when they really do not He repeated re-peated that the Latterday Saintswere the noblest people on earth and said l that Governments Instead of seeking to stay their progress should do every timing In their power to aid them And then he said Did you ever know of a patriotic honing Government people petitioning a GIJernINt against n small handful of people No patriot was ever miilty of anything of the kind A patriot Is I one that upholds up-holds the Constitution of a Government But there are hypocrites among professed pro-fessed patriots as well as among other people And I say God bless the patriots pa-triots and God bless the Government and give them moral courage to standby stand-by the Constitution and not be moral cowards We are interested In having a righteous Government o all people on the earth and we know how to appreciate liberty how to appreciate freedom and we never Interfere with other peoples doctrines or thou belief We have enough to do to preach our own S The benediction was pronounced by 1 Elder C D FJelstcd and conference adjourned until 10 oclock this morning |
