Show PREPAR NG FOR fAMNE Why Mormon Relief Society is Storing Wheat WHAT MRS HORNE FORESEES I I I I r President of the Society Says that I the Signs of the Times Show that a Famine Will Como Such as India Has Suffered From What the Society I I ciety Has on Hand With Which to I Sleet ItReport of Work Done by Nurses of the Society Belief Work in the Various Wards i I The quarterly meeting of the Wo mans Relief corps of the Salt Lake slake was held yesterday In the Assembly As-sembly hall M Isabella Home the president of the society welcomes the sisters at the morning meeting The attendance was small and In the course of her remarks re-marks Mrs Home said she thought It a pity that the Relief society of the Salt Lake stake could not make a better bet-ter showing and hoped the women of Zion would be stirred up to be more faithful to the trust reposed in them Mrs Augusta Grant read the annual I report of tho society showing a membership mem-bership of 1200 cash In the treasury 2100 wheat money 900 floUr stored 500 tons bushels of wheat stored 1SOO The report of the work done by nurses during the quarter was most gratifying Mrs Empey Who is In charge of these nurses reported that there is now a corps of twentyfive nurses who ore ready at any time to respond to calls of charity Mrs Em pey reported that there were but four cases during the quarter treated as absolute ab-solute charity cases all others while not being able to pay the regular compensation com-pensation of trained nurses preferring to pay what little they could than to be considered charity cases Then the presidents of the Relief societies so-cieties In the several wards of the city reported the work done in their respective re-spective wards showing that the poor are well cared for that the members of the society arc obeying tho instruction Instruc-tion of President Young relative to the storing of wheat and that harmony and peace exist among the sisters I Before the close of the meeting Mrs Home Impressed upon the members the necessity for being faithful in the storing stor-ing of wheat said that the signs of the times proved that a famine will reach us such as it has India and said that In time of plenty the people of ZIon should prepare fora day of want At the afternoon meeting Mrs Anna P Hyde spoke of the splendid work of he society and concluded with an cx tended reference to its trained nurses These trained nurses had agreed to serve for two years and as that time had about expired another class would soon be formed and It was the intention inten-tion to give the new class Instructions In cooking also Mrs Zina Young objected to the indiscriminate In-discriminate soliciting of funds for the society To beg she said was not the Intent of the society but It was to give and to do Apostle Brigham Young spoke of the I society and paid a tribute to the worth of its founders and older members Ilcbcr J Grant urged a better attendance at-tendance at the meetings paying that they would get Into the spirit of the work by such attendance |
