Show DThWOB1EDEGLftES Will not be President of Salt Lake College SO INFORMS THE TRUSTEES Friends of the Institution Disappointed Disap-pointed by the Declination I Noble Regrets that Ho Cannot Come but Fears that al His Advanced Ad-vanced Ago His Health Would not Stand tho Strain of College Duties Another Call Soon to be Made from Several Hen in View < Dr Frederick A Noble of Chicago who was some months since called lo Lime presidency ot Salt Lake college has wrItten the board of trustees of that Institution that owing lo Illheallh ho will be unable lo accept the position In the letter to the board of trustees Dr Noble expressed great regret at being be-ing unable to accept the position saying say-Ing that ho realized the Importance of higher education In this State especially especial-ly Iliac lo be accomplished by time sec larlan schools and that I lie aim should be lo keep the sectarian schools of the I State first class in every way In fact Dr Noble stated that ho had never been invited to work in any field that he held to be a more Important one than that offered aa president of the Salt Lake college But although a wellpreserved man Dr Noble has reached nearly HIP three seoro and len milestone la life and I being affected with heart trouble feels that lIme active life of a college presi dent would be nut of time nutsUnn It will be remembered that when first called to lie position Dr Nobles health was In a bad cpndllion and It was feared then that i ho would be obliged to decline time lifer Later however his health Improved and the friends of Salt Lake college began to Impe that ho would come But the iiope was vain and he has finally declined He feels that he con fulfill the dulles nf ji Pan tar of a church but not the dulles of time president of a college The board of trustees of Salt Lake college have several men In view but have not decided upon calling any one of them Rev r O Day national secretary of education for tIme Congregational schools will be In Chicago during the present month and the board of trustees trus-tees of the Salt Lake college has requested re-quested Dr Clarence T Brown to go lo Chicago to meet Rev Mr May and confer with him on the question of a president for the college and other mat tern pertaining to time schools Dr Brown is unable to state Just now whether or not he will be able to go to Chicago but If he does make the trip It will bo a brief one covering about a week of ten days |
