Show I WESTMINSTER SERVICES Sermon on the Subject How Can IConic I-Conic to Christ At the evangelistic meeting1 at Westminster West-minster church last night Rev K Cooper Bailey spoke on How Can I Come to Christ Ue said In part We often sing The way to heaven Is strajght und plain repent believe be born again An experience oC twelve years as pastor has taught me that people do not find the way straight and plain as thesu lines would indicate j I want to show by steps Just what wo mean when we ask people ta come to Christ In T John f and JO we read He that bellovcth on the son hath Mil ness in himself There is a vast difference dif-ference between believing about a thing or a person and believing on a person You believe about the existence of nuch places as England or any other country coun-try you may never have seen you believe be-lieve about Julius Caesar or Wellington Welling-ton or George Washington but such belief brings no moralforce Into your lives nor Influences your conduct In any vny vnyYou arc required lo believe on Christ In the sense of committing1 to him all your Interests for lime and eternity When you have so committed these Interests In-terests or affairs you know consciously that you have done it You have the witness in yourselves That Is your step Uhristaril At that point Christ meets you as we read in John i 12 But as many as received him to them he gave power to become the sons of God even to them that believe on his name Jesus thus recognizes your belief on him by granting to you the right au thorlty or privilege of being called sons of God Not only so but lie Holy Spirit confirms the witness you already have by giving you divine assurance of your acceptance with God This Is the teaching of Paul in Romans vlli 16 The spirit of himself beareth witness wit-ness with our spirits that we arc the children of God During hue line of my slay in the city no child has addressed me as father The reason Is they have not my spirit In them and before men can call God Father they must be possessed pos-sessed of the Fathers spirit or In other words they must have the spirit of divine sonshlp The choir rendered very effective musical mu-sical numbers during the evening and an intense spirit of interest pervades the meetings |
