Mr. Smlth'B wife Is charged with selling three bottles of beer to Strcbby the evening before, and George Deck Is charged with selling two bottles of wine to Strebby tho same night that tio purchased the beer from Smith. Mr. Strebby was a dotectlvo In the employ of tho city and has been living nuru for thu past two months. He is a sou-in-lnw of Mrs. J. P. Halsey. It uppears that Strebby went to Smith's homo to catch Mr. Smith, but as tho latter wus not at homo hu secured ttie desired evidence from Mrs. Smith. I'hu olllccrs searched tho detective's buggy boforo he went In and then when ho came out. It Is said that Mrs. Smith, who has been in bed most of tho time since tho arrest, confessed to tho olllccrs. As Mr. Smith was the one really desired, tho detective went back the following night, nnd while Strebby purchased iind drank the beer the ohiccrti watched tho transaction through tho window. When Strebby wont to Mr. Deck's home he Btated that ho wanted some ttiuo for Mr. Halsey.
