Show HORSES AND THE FAIR The Judges of horses In the fair do not like the statement given In The Tribune yesterday that a horse was barred out from entry In the all purpose pur-pose class because it was too finely bred They explain that the animal was under age and utterly unfitted for entry In that class that it was a two yearold filly clean cut as a deer and weighing perhaps 875 pounds which does not answer tho requirements of tin all purpose horse at all They told the owner that the filly was too fine not too finely bred meaning that because of her weight and action she was fitted only for a buggy or a racehorse race-horse To make a class for such animals the directors through the recommendation recommenda-tion of the judges fixed a schedule of speed prizes and that It was so satisfactory satis-factory that not a protest was llled Speaking generally the judges say that under the l law there was not a thoroughbred horse on exhibition not a 1 Clydesdale not a Hackney not an English or German coach horse and I only undersized French coachers I Mr Smith of Logan brought down his magnificent Tercheron weight 2200 pounds splendid action and pretty as picture but could not obtain an entry for him that Mr Thomas refused re-fused to brlhg In his great Clydesdale for the same reason There were no premiums offered for carriage or coach teams or for trap or surrey horses There were three medals offered for the best team to pull the best single driver and the best paddle hprse The list should be revised before another an-other fair Is held indeed there should be a great change of programme and tho directors should have a horse convention con-vention for educational purposes I |
