Show A Pension Story An interesting story has been developed de-veloped at the United Stales pension ofllce in connection with the claim of a woman which will shortly be allowed The story is a strange one and Involves a woman who killed her husband a Union soldier and through whom she may receive the bounty oc the Government Govern-ment Away out In North Dakota beyond be-yond Fort Stevens there lived until some months ago au oxUnion soldier who had married a halfbreed Indian woman The husband was a man of violent temper and a victim oC strong drink One day he rode tohis home and dismounting ordered his wife at the point of a pistollo give him his dinner at once He followed her about the house as she was preparing tile meal but finally she escaped Into the fields where she was followed by her infuriated husband mounted on a horse and carrying the baby In his arms As he neared his wife ho threw the baby on the newlyploughed ground and called her lo come lo him As the approached he kicked her In the breast and as he pointed his pistol at her his horse reared and he was thrown to the ground The wife sprang on her hufl band threw the pistol out ofhls reach and as he struggled to grapple with her she tightened the leather strap he wore about his neck to hold his watch and held it calling for help When his struggles ceased she picked up the baby and ran to the house It was found on examination thai the man was dead These facts wore devploped ai the Coroners Inquest When the ease came to the pension offlce and the suggestion was made to Commissioner Evans by a special examiner that a woman who had killed a Union soldier should bo pensioned he was amazed but when he heard the story of Iho tragedy he was convinced that the examiner ex-aminer was rlKht Milwaukee Sentinel Senti-nel |
