Show = V JUBILEE A SMALL AFFA1R V DEMOCRATIC LADIES SUPPER DISAPPOINTMENT Attendance at the Theater Not Lnrgs Enough to Hold the Proposed Motng There I The Jubilee of Democratic women ot Utah the lovetoast of the fair sex of the great Democracy of Utah which t has been advertised ns one of the fete iavs of that party has come and gone and yet few wore thrilled by the event Judging from the showing made I the gathering yesterday represented I I Democracys fair sex from alI V parts of the State it merely shows I what a falling oft there has been In the ranks of the faithful during the past I four years V V V Those who did come and they were few in number gathered at the home of Mrs A TV aicCune where 0 reception waa given in their honor by Mrs Mc i i Cun and Mrs Home who were as I slfilsted in receiving by Mrs Cohen and I I bcvoral prominent Democratic wOI len I I j The Vi house was bright with autumn I flowers and softly shaded lights made I a pretty scene V Music was furnished by the Democratic Demo-cratic ladles quartette little Millie Williams a child of S years with a remarkably re-markably beautiful voice for one so I I young Mrs latllmer and Miss I Wilson i and Mrs Nellie Druce Pugsley I i There was to have been a meeting In I the Theater but only about two dozen I gathered there to greet Fisher S Harris Har-ris and Hi P Henderson two of the partys most prominent speakers so It V I was decided to invite the forlorn looking look-ing audience to go to Mrs McCunes I house The invitation was accepted and for two hours or more listened to the orators I Both speakers tried to impress their hearers with the importance j i import-ance of supporting the Democratic i r I ticket Mr Harris dwelt more particularly j particu-larly on the evil of trusts and had the temerity to say that there are noD no-D at the heads of trusts but the desire of Democrats is to wipe them ou of existence Judge Hendersons chief theme was imperialism and he expressed fear lest the United States should reestablish slavery after the terrible lesson of the Civil war by placing In slavery the ten millions of V Inhabitants of the Philippine islands He felt that the American laS would not be dishonored by being withdrawn from those Islands and said It ought to bo done Card Party of Democratic Women The Womens Democratic club gave a delightful card party at the residence of Moses Thatcher last night About 125 guests were present and twenty two tables were occupied Following the game a literary and musical pro gramme was carried out In which little I flamme Millie Williams Mrs sevenyearold 111e Yllams Mr I Nellie Druce Pugsley V and the Ladles Democratic quartette sang an original poem Democracy by Mrs Rebecca Brown was read by Miss Prudence Brown Mrs Christensen of O del recited I re-cited Who Will Haul Down the Flag and Mr Noah sang The StarSpangled Banner The entertainment was completed com-pleted by refreshments being served The gentlcmcna first prize was wonby James Lynch the ladles first prize by Mrs Monhelm and a prize for which all present cut went to Mrs Gibson of Ogden I |
