Show I CHRISTIAN UNION MOVEMENT i SOCIETY DISCUSSES ITS PLANS I POR WORK I I I t Not Yet Ready to Disclose its Policy t Petition Being Circulated by tho I W C TU I I I The Young Peoples Christian union held Its regular monthly meeting last J evening at the Y M C A parlors and discussed the wlneroom evils and evils I at Soltalr The union will mak6 an I earnest effort to suppress growing evils I among the youth of Zion but has I deemed It wise to not as yet give out I Its plan of action As staled some time since the endeavor will not be to tear down but rather to offer something better as a counterattraction for those I who frequent places where Intoxicants i arc sold S And on this hue a suggestion was j I made last evening It was stated by the young lady presenting the Idea that i many men go to such places for lack of better entertainment and she thought that if the public library were kept open on Sunday not for the general gen-eral distribution ot books but thatmen and women might go there and read that many and many a one who now I spends his Limo In a profitless and oft times evil way would welcome the chance of spending a quiet afternoon with the worlds best authors Tho sug gestion met with tho approval of the members of tho union Mrs E R Shepard a member of the committee from the W C T U was present and asked tho cooperation of the Y P C U In the movement Inaugurated In-augurated by the AV C T U wIth re ference to Sal lair and was assured of the hearty support of the young people In that direction In tIme absence of Dr Silver R S Eaton presided over the meeting |
