Show ROAD WilL BE fflLT U J L C 0 Whittemore Brings Good News to Utah I i DETAILS OF BIG PROJECT All Salt Lake Has to Do to Absolutely Absolute-ly Assure Los Angeles Road is to I Grant it the Franchise for Right oC I Way and DepotMoney Ready to Contruct the Line Burlington Sends Out Surveyors from Its Terminal Ter-minal at Guernsey to Work West Railroad Notes I United States Attorney C OVhl temore returned from Los Angeles last evening As already told he went thereupon there-upon Invitation of officials of the Los Angeles Terminal to be present at the banquet by the citizens of that place In celebration of the assurances that the road would be extended at once to Salt Lake Seen at his home last night Mr Whittemore said I certain conditions con-ditions are compiled with in the way of n limited subscription to the stocks and bonds of the new road in Los Angeles An-geles and the granting of certain franchises fran-chises and depot privileges by Salt Lake City the building of an independent line of railway between the cities of Los Angeles and Salt Lake only to be operated fn the interest of both cities Is nn assured fact The incalculable benefits to this city and the whole State or such a road are so fully appreciated by every one that nothing need be said on that subject All that will bo asked of the people of this city Is that the new road be granted such concessions as will place It on an equal footing with the other railroads now doing business In this city That this will 1 be done readily and quickly I have no doubt The people who have Salt Lakes interests most at heart and fortunately that Includes most of us will want this road to terminate in Salt Lake and nowhere else To Insure this result a site for a passenger depot and for freight yards should bo secured and offered to the new company that will enable them to compete for business with the other roads entering this city Our city has grown and improved so much In the Inst ton ny firtnnn tfnnra that It would be difficult if l not Inipos slble for a new railroad to secure these benefits without the aid of the people l obstacles and difficulties that might jeopardize this enterprise must be removed re-moved and every possible inducement offered to encourage the men who are behind the project to push it with all al their vljror J OFFICIALS ARE COMING Mr J Ross Clark and Mr T E Gibbon will stop over here on the 12lli of this month en route to New York for a final conference with Senator W A Clark and the other men who arc to be Interested In the great enterprise While Messrs Clark and Gibbon are here they will want to know what the city of Salt Lake has to offer as its contribution con-tribution to the project We must see to It that our offer will be one that will at once convince them of the friendliness and generosity of our city Aside from the lines run to San Bernardino Ber-nardino nothing has a yet been decided de-cided upon as to the route The object ob-ject however will be to secure the ohontest line and easiest grades between be-tween the two cities In order that the road may compete for the transcontinental transconti-nental freight and passenger business I Is a matter of great personal satisfaction satis-faction to me and will be of great interest In-terest to the people to know that the new company will in all probability have Its terminal In this State A company with a capital of twenty millions mil-lions will be organized under the laws of Utah within thirty days This means a whole lot for the State In fees as well a in many other ways Mr Whittemore fully confirmed the news as given exclusively In The Tribune Trib-une from day to day All tho details a given by J Ross Clark were correctly correct-ly reported in the special from Los Angeles the day following the banquet and the list of omcers were given In these columns yesterday ROUTE NOT YET SELECTED The several routes have also been fully discussed As to this matte however how-ever Mr Whittemore says nothing has been decided upon except that the road will run to San Bernardino and thence to Utah There are three established routes and one of them will be adopted Mr Whittemore repeats the important import-ant statement that the road will be absolutely Independent hut will hope to make friendly connection with all roads centering here Senator Clark has secured an equal Interest In the Los Angeles Terminal as that held by the others and has agreed to extend the road on the two conditions One of these conditions that of a subscription subscrip-tion of 1000000 to the bonds by Los Angeles people Is already assured The other franchises in Salt Lake will no doubt be an easy matter to adjust The 1 per cent bonds will all be taken by the projectors of the road barring the 1000000 to be subscribed In Los Angeles An-geles and possibly 500000 worth which may be offered in Salt Lake Mr Whitlemore who is to be the companys attorney says that in every way will the new railroad bo of the greatest benefit to Utah and if started at once It will be completed within two years From now on to September 12th he will Interest Salt Lake people In the enterprise and arrange for a meeting with the officials who will come here from Los Angeles for the purpose of starting the big project and arranging for franchises |
