Cameron arm broken A L Zclck conductor shoulder and hip dlslocated WHERE ACCIDENT OCCURRED Tho scene of the accident was at a point about seven miles east of Wood villo station in a stretch of level ground known as Elk park The train consisted consist-ed of two baggage cars one smoker ono day coach and one sleeper and contained fifty passengers After leaving leav-ing Woodvllle which Is I the summit of Ing roodvlc the continental divide the engineer as is usual on the level ground of Elk park out on an extra head of steam and was covering the ground at a rate of about fortyfive miles an hour when a Jar was felt in the passenger coaches In an instant the passengers realized that the cars had left the rails and were running on the tics PANICSTRICKEN PASSENGERS Then followed a scene of wild confusion confu-sion Men and women became palc1 stricken Some of the passengers rushed to the windows and doors wlillo i the women shrieked and clutched at the I sides of their seals The next Instant i the coachcp rolled over the embankment embank-ment In the Jarring of the coaches I the lights were extinguished which wag n fortunate circumstance otherwise the loss of life wOuld have ben much l greater J RESCUING THE INJURED After the coaches fell cries of terror wore heard In the darkness and men and women mado frantic efforts to gain the open air through the doors and windows win-dows Those not seriously hurt managed man-aged 10 climb out and at once began to S give their attention to the work of rescuing res-cuing the women and the injured RELIEF SENT FROM BUTTE JUTE Conductor Zelck who was seriously Injured In-jured made his way back to Woodvillo five miles and telegraphed to Butte for help Relief trains with doctors and nurses were sent to the scene a tho wreck at once and did not return with tho dead and injured until about 1 oclock this morning LIFE CRUSHED OUT James Luceski of Great Falls and John Leroy Kelly an clght yearold l son of Mr and Mrs S J Kelly of Sait Lake were caught under the overturned I over-turned coaches and frightfully crushed r XELLYS BADLY INJURED S The boys father and mother were both badly injured though their condition con-dition is not considered serious Kelly has several ribs broken and was cut I about the head Mrs Kelly sustained I an injury to her back but is suffering mostly from shock Bpth sunerlnr Sisters hospital and are receiving tho attentions of the Butte Elks Kelly beIng be-ing a member of that order in Salt Lake He is ulsoa Mason Kelly ls ia onearmed telegraph operator and with his family was on his way lo Helena to accept a position there A twoyearold baby in the arms of Mrs Kelly escaped es-caped without Injury SALT LAKER F LLY INJURED Robert Ewing also from Salt Lake is Injured so badly that he cannot recover re-cover The left leg was crushed off several ribs broken head badly cut and he Is suffering from concussion of the brain Ills people live in Newton Kan Thomas Smith also from Salt Lake was among the Injured but not hurt enough to make It necessary to go to the hospital and after his injuries were dressed last night he went on his way There were about seventyfive people on the train at the time of the accident and nearly all of them wero more or less injured RAILROAD MEN BADLY HURT Besides Ewing the most seriously In jured was J B McCormIck who for many years was city passenger agent of the Northern Pacific and one of the best and most popular railroad men in I the Northwest He was on his way to Helena to meet General Passenger Agent Fee He Is suffering from sej rlous injuries to his back and sdi injuries and his condition Is critical |
