pro-fesses to be Schlatter the famous divine di-vine healer whose ministrations on behalf of the afflicted In Denver six years ago created worldwide comment com-ment lectured at the New Grand theater the-ater yesterday afternoon and evening Schlatter it will be remembered was alleged to have perished in New Mexico Mex-ico after his departure from rand r-and many people throughout the country coun-try have disputed the claim that Rev Dr McLean and Schlatter are one and the same So general has been the denial de-nial In fact that Dr McLean seems to brood deeply over the matter and In his lectures he Is extremely bitter against tlie people who arc Inclined to doubt that he Is the same man who performed such wonders In the Colorado I Colo-rado metropolis six orcars ago WAS CALLED A FRAUD I In the lecture which he delivered at I the Grand at 3 oclock yesterday afternoon after-noon Di McLean was especially bitter bit-ter He had just fairly gotten Into the proposition of who and what he was i when Dr J C Sides formerly of Den vcr and an Intimate acquaintance of i Schlatter broke In with Well you are not the man who was In Denver excuse me Dr McLean immediately ceased talkIng talk-Ing and called out Send an officer up here and take this man out or I I wont speak another word The divine healer then disappeared bi hlnd the wings and remained there until an attache of the theater prevailed pre-vailed upon Dr Sides to retire When Dr McLean reappeared he re I cried to Sides ns a drunken sot and I launched into a tirade against the laxity lax-ity of American laws Now and then h < i would quote from the Bible and for a few minutes would run along smoothly smooth-ly but his discourse In the main was In the nature of an excoriation of the people throughout the country who have pronounced hliri a fakir and I abounded In abuse of people and things that he did not lee I HEALING WAS POSTPONED His announcement that he would ono I o-no tfpallng at the afternoon service I caused great disappointment as here I wore a number of persons present who I were anxious to test his healing powers He also explained that faith on tho part of the subject was absolutely necessary the sU1ject heal those essary and that he could not who did not believe that the Almighty through him could cure their Infirmities Infirmi-ties Dr Sides who Interrupted McLean said after the meeting that he was intimately in-timately acquainted with Schlatter the Denver healer and that he knew Mc Lean was not the man who was known in Denver as Schlatter ABUSED REV MR CLEMENSON A fairsized audience gathered at the Qrand theater in the evening to listen to McLean and witness the cures which he claims to be able tQ make Many went forward to receive the benefits of his healing powers and all as announced an-nounced by Schlatter as they left the stage claimed to have been benefited bene-fited or blessed There was but one Interruption from I the audience during the evening and this was by the Rev Mr Clemenson of Logan While the healer was blessing bless-ing a woman who claimed to be partially par-tially blind he foljowed the usual performance per-formance of showing a card before she was blessed and afterward and asking 11 she could rend what was on It The first card as claimed by Rev Mr Clemenson was white with very line or no printing upon It the second was green with a type which could be distinctly dis-tinctly seen from the gallery where Mr Clcmonson was sitting that Is ho could tel there tas printing upon I while on the white card he could not So he called out when the green card was shown to the woman Show the white card and then Schlatter called out for him to shut his mouth what business he had asked him to Interrupt a religious meeting called him a scoundrel said that God would curse him asked the people to trace his record and they would find that he belonged In Jail and many other similar remarks Nor did this close the matter for every time after he blessed a patient subsequent to this the healer would let forth a volley of abuse for the benefit of the Interrupter Rev Mr Olemenson also stated to a representative repre-sentative of The Tribune at the close of the meeting that Schlatter had two watches which ho used 1 testing the hearing of those who claimed to be deaf or partially so that one was an openface watch unattached to I chain which was used before the blessing bless-ing that the other was a huntingcase watch attached to a chain and was used after the blessing had been pronounced pro-nounced 01 the prayer made In behalf of the afflicted In each case those whose eyes were affected said they could see better and those whose hear ing was affected said they could hear better Whether the difference In cards and watches had anything to do with this was not stated by Schlat I ter terTHOSE THOSE WHO TESTED POWERS Preceding the healing acts McLean l gave a brief sermon on faith said that what he was doing was not through him but tho Lord and that each suf feror would be helped according to his faith He assured the audience that there could be no fraud In it and then Invited those over 1 years of age who were sutfdHng
