Show FLOODSIN TEXAS SITUATION AT AUSTIN HAS SOMEWHAT IMPROVED In Wharton and Lafayette Counties Everything is Inundated uch Loss of Live Stock and Property jI j I I Austin Tex April 9The floOd sltu iitlon here Is improved somewhat but I the reports from points below Indicate that the full effect of the Immense volume I vol-ume of water Is being cit in Wharton and Lafayette counties everything being be-ing Inundated and much loss of property proper-ty and live stock being reported In Baslrop county the flood has caused much damage and something like llfty washouts and losses of bridges are reported by the railways Advices from the area surrounding the county 8CJit of Baylrop county are to the effect that there has been some loss of life among the farming clabs aa their homes were Inundated without warn ing by the tidal wave but outside ot an unconfirmed report that eight lives were lost nothing can be learned In the southern part of this county several sever-al persons arc inlsslnjr the number representing a family of six Italians and two negro families whose houses have been washed away lhe river Is receding rapidly at this point and above notwithstanding the fact that another heavy rise was reported re-ported early this morning on the I Concho 125 miles north of here Reports tonight from La Grange In Faycttc county are to the effect that while much of the lower portion oC the town Is under water the property lo sIs s-Is smalL No one Is mlsslng The International Great Northern railway and the Missouri Kansas Texas have been seriously crippled by the floods The llrat named road has had 500 washouts and lost bridges on Its road from here to the Rio Grande The Missouri Kansas Texas la likewise like-wise a heavy loser having to abandon mUch of Its track altogether and use tin International Great Northern from Taylor to Milano and the Santa Fe track from there to North Texas points It is not believed that the damage to the cotton crop will be of such extent as has been predicted from some places as Urn yeason In yet early and all the crop can be replanted Gonxalos reports the flood situation not much Improved the river having fallen only about four feet ttlnco yesterday yes-terday There has been great loss to cattle In the river bottoms and It Is feared a flaxen or more lives have been lost A Bohemian and his wife panic I stricken Jumped Into the turbulent 1 waters tenfoot deep and worn almost I Immediately drowned when they cOuld have remained in safety It IB thought I a negro boy of Marcus Tales is I also I drowned and two Mexicans are missIng miss-Ing Reports come In that a number of bodies have been seen caught on snags and barbed wire fences The river farms are ruined but the total loss cannot be estimated as yet |
