Show Utah Guardsmen Answer U.S. Call More than a thousand Utah Army National Guardsmen heard the call Sunday, October 1 the call of President Kennedy, who recently ordered to active duty a number of Guardsmen and reservists to build up our Armed Forces. As Maj. Gen. Maxwell E. Rich so appropriately put it, "It is not a happy day, but it is a proud one." While delivering his farewell address to 500 Utah Guardsmen from XI Corps Artillery and 1st Target Acquisition Bn., 140th Artillery, in front of the Salt Lake City Guard armory, Gen. Richa said, "This is not a happy day, for it means the calling up and the breaking up of the finest National Guard ever assembled in the United States. "It is a proud day. We take pride in our readiness. We take pride in the way you have responded re-sponded to this call. We are proud that you are ours." Other Utah Army Guard units mobilized Sunday at their home stations are the 115th Engineer Bn., Murray, with elements in Tooele, Heber and Vernal, and the 116th Engineer Co., Spring-ville. Spring-ville. Teachers, students, foundry-men, foundry-men, farmers, engineers, construction con-struction workers, electrpnics technicians, ranchers and clerks are among the Utah citizens affected af-fected by the call. Col. C. A. Troiano, Utah Sector, Sec-tor, X US Army Corps, and Col. George K. Moody, Fort Douglas, welcomed Guardsmen and their dependents into the active army |
